I met Bob in Mérida, Yucatán, in 2009. He was one of the faculty with the US Poets in Mexico workshop I attended, and he remained, for me, a charming, inspirational poetic voice. He takes language seriously, while also being completely unafraid to be risky with it. He’s giving a talk at the LACMA this Thursday, February 23, at 5:30pm, about the oral tradition. He’s also performing some poetry with a griot playing a kora.
